Finally saw "Searching For Sugar Man" and had mixed feelings afterwards.
Sixto Rodriguez is a very talented lyricist and it's wonderful that his music has been discovered by such a larger number of people. It has to really hurt when you know you are equal to or surpass so many others who have experienced both fame and fortune, yet very few are aware of your musical existence.
However, the proverbial bone to pick is with the film. Just how much more do we know about Rodriguez after viewing the documentary? Granted, maybe Rodriguez preferred it that way but I wanted to know what led to him majoring in philosophy in college, what factors birthed his songwriting style, if living in Detroit had any musical influence, if he has continued to write songs and so on.
It's as if the search needs to continue on.
